Supply Lists
Students are responsible for providing all of their own supplies. Supply lists are available for download on this website. Workshop supply lists are usually very specific, please adhere as closely as you can to get as much as possible out of the art class.
If you are new to an art medium, I recommend NOT getting every color recommended on the supply list, only those you will need for your first painting, adding additional colors as needed.
Students taking classes at Hobby Lobby, the store requests that students attending classes at their store give them patronage, but it is not compulsory
Christine will have limited art supplies available for purchase at the Oro Valley Community Center.
A Non Toxic Art Studio
Absolutely no solvent or oil painting medium or acrylic painting medium or drawing fixative that is toxic to breath will be permitted in art class. This includes but is not limited to: Turpentine, Odorless Mineral Spirits (Gamsol, Mona Lisa, Odorless Terpenoid), Liquin, Meglip, Copal, Japan drier, pre-mixed oil painting mediums, etc.
Though non toxic, no strongly odored mediums may be used in weekly Painting and Drawing Classes, but may at times (when specified) be used in certain workshops, such as 100% Lavender and Rosemary essential oils, and mediums that contain these oils, plus tree resins.
Fixatives may be used outside and dried in the hallway.
Acceptable oil paint solvents for use in art class include: Eiffy, plant- based oil cleaner available through instructor, or linseed oil, walnut oil, safflower oil, all good for cleaning brushes and adding small amounts to your paint. Or canola oil, or baby oil, these are good for cleaning brushes, but not for thinning paint.
Acceptable oil painting mediums include: (slow drying) Walnut oil, linseed oil, poppy oil, safflower oil, (fast drying) Walnut Alkyd medium, Solvent-free gel safflower alkyd painting medium, walnut painting gel.
