ARAVAIPA CANYON ART RETREAT
MARCH 13-16, 2017

During the four days, students will have the opportunity to explore 3 focus areas: “Notans”, painting the illusion of “Atmosphere”, and “Emotional Expression” through mark making.  The beautiful surroundings of Aravaipa Canyon will be our main subject matter.  Christine will demonstrate each day, followed by student painting time with one-on-one instruction.

Students will have ample time to relax, explore, and enjoy the scenery.  The retreat center is surrounded by over 60,000 acres of protected wilderness, with trails, streams and lounge areas.  Aravaipa Canyon is home to many animal species including Big Horn Sheep, Coati, and Bob cats.  To keep the cost of the retreat down, students will take turns helping with occasional meal prep and meal cleanup.  People with special dietary needs are welcome to bring their own additional food to subsidize what is provided.  A menu
will be decided with input from participants and emailed a week before the retreat.

Location

Aravaipa Canyon Ranch, Winkelman, AZ 85192

Directions From Tucson
(50-55 miles, 1.5 hours)

Take US Highway 77 (Oracle Road) north through Catalina, Oracle Junction, Oracle and Mammoth. At 9 miles north of Mammoth, (mile marker 124) turn right on Aravaipa Road (at Central Arizona College). Continue 10 miles (4 paved, 6 unpaved) to a large steel-framed bridge at the base of Brandenburg Mountain. After crossing the bridge, immediately turn right into the entrance of Aravaipa Canyon Ranch. Continue past the first house on your left to the trees and creek crossing at the rear of the property. Depending on the type of vehicle you are driving and the depth of the creek, you will be advised whether you should park or if you should ford the creek (slow and steady on the gas, don't stop or gun the engine).  If advised to park, a shuttle service will be available to assist you with crossing the creek. Once you have crossed the creek, follow the unpaved road to the Aravaipa Canyon Ranch.

Sketch   .   Rest   .   Breathe   .  Aravaipa Canyon is one of my favorite places on earth and is just a simple drive away from Tucson.   My spirit is renewed whenever I go.  Come enjoy the sound of the year round stream, fresh air and delightful surprises that the Canyon alway has to offer while we make art!
