“Moonjung’s Jubilee”, 30x48, oil on canvas SOLD
This painting took me 13 years to complete, as I tried to only work from life. The tree featured is a White Nectarine I planted from seed; it only bloomed for about 2 weeks a year. In its branches are seen 7 origami birds, animated and playing like real birds. This series was inspired by a documentary I saw in 2011 about how origami is the only art form that is truly transformative. You start with a square piece of paper, you neither cut it nor glue anything to it. You simply fold it and it is transformed into something else. All other art forms are either additive (painting, drawing, clay) or reductive (stone sculpture). The idea inspired me with the parallel to our own transformation as human beings. How we long to be transformed into what we were created to be, to reach our potential, to be our best version of ourselves. For me, my great longing is “And we all, shown as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, with the face uncovered, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as from the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18
