In this self-paced course, you will:

~Impart to your art an elevated taste, “Le grand gout”, and beautiful design with the seal of elegance.
~Develop a visual memory & recall. 
~Master accuracy in drawing, shading, color and painting skills.
~Become proficient at portrait, figure, landscape and still life.
~Learn multiple approaches to creating a painting
~Develop the skills to work from your imagination.
~Create your own style rooted in the foundation of thousands of years of skill, mingled with your own message.

Who is this class for?

Any artist student of art really wanting to learn and develop  their skills, age 8 & older.
No previous art experience necessary, but you are welcome to build on any you currently have.

When & Where:  
​This class will resume Fall 2019, If you are interested in learning these skills and do not want to wait, you may join one of the weekly "Painting & Drawing" classes and I will instruct you independently.

Thursdays 9 a.m.-1 p.m.  
Class is 4 hours long with a 1 hour teacher demonstration and 3 hours of studio time.

How Much does it cost?

Tuition is $195/ calendar month regardless of how many weeks in the month.  
There are no late fees, & no “make-ups”.
This is a self paced class, so you can join, take a break and rejoin any time you like. 
$65/ Individual class.
Supply rental available for $10/session or $30/month​

What we will be studying:

  • You will first draw with graphite pencil, studies of the famous "Bargue" plates (Van Gough went through the plates 7 times to teach himself how to draw).
  • You will begin to develop a visual memory & recall immediately, something artists were taught long ago, but in an easy, step-by-step method.
  • You will progress to drawn studies of great Master lithographs.
  • Than onto figure drawings.
  • Anatomy will be sprinkled in, so as not to overwhelm you by studying it all at once.
  • You will begin painting using only black & white to master application, seeing the large forms and modeling values.  Your reference material will be plaster casts of great antique sculpture.
  • Your color palette will slowly grow so you will become intimate with all of the capabilities of each color.
  • You will learn about "Dead Color", Glazing, Scumbling, brush handling and paint consistencies.
  • ​You will gain a solid understanding of each layer of paint, from surface preparation through varnishing, and the appropriate medium to be used at each stage of the painting.
  • You will learn different paint applications, approaches and styles from history.
Along the way you will sculpt with clay to further understand form, light and dynamic composition.
